Pigmentation Spots
CAUSES
80% of pigmentation spots develop before the age of 20. However, they only become visible once they exceed this cell size. This also applies to white pigmentation damage. Excessive exfoliation and dermabrasion do indeed make the skin thinner but do not cause pigmentation spots. The main cause of pigmentation disorders is UV radiation. The second most common cause is hormonal fluctuations (e.g. pregnancy) and medication. The most severe form of pigmentation disorder manifests as vitiligo. This involves a complete breakdown of tyrosinase and, consequently, melanin production. It is easily recognisable by large pigment-free patches on the skin. The only remedy is to cover these areas with tinted UV protection.
Inadequate scar management can also lead to pigment damage in the affected area. The same applies to acne: anyone who scratches or squeezes spots risks not only scarring but also pigmentation marks. Therefore, always cover surgical scars for 12 months and use scar-care products during the healing phase (sorry, but Betadine isn’t enough).
MELANIN CONTROL is the right solution for hyperpigmentation. In addition, a continuous supply of vitamin A plays a key role in the success of the treatment. Give your skin 6–12 months to achieve lasting results.
Important: Although pigment removal using lasers or dermabrasion is possible, it usually results in long-term damage to the outermost layer of the skin. Worst of all, the spots return even more intensely because the pigmentation has been disrupted.
