Vitamin A Therapy

Probably the oldest health insight known to humankind is that vitamins are important for a healthy body. This makes it all the more astonishing that, although we have valued them in our diet for several hundred years, we have only scientifically recognised their effect on the skin for around 70 years. Vitamin intake is only efficient and effective when absorbed through the skin.

Although proven by several scientific studies, vitamin therapies for the skin are hardly known. The production of vitamin products is therefore currently limited to very small companies, as the need for customer advice appears to be significant. Only products that anyone can simply pick off the shelf are suitable as mass-market items. Unfortunately, these are also less effective.

Vitamin A Therapy

Although vitamin A is well absorbed through food, very little reaches the skin. Nutrients absorbed through food are first supplied to the organs and only then to the skin. It takes up to 5 days for it to reach the skin. With a vitamin A cream or serum, the process takes 4–6 hours.
Vitamin A helps the skin to interpret its natural signals, thereby accelerating regeneration. As UV rays and blue light destroy vitamins A&C in the skin, this active ingredient is particularly important.

Retinol, which is a form of vitamin A, can actually make the skin more sensitive to light, and it is recommended to use it preferably in the evening and to apply sun protection during the day.

However, there are also other forms of vitamin A, such as retinaldehyde, retinyl palmitate and retinyl acetate, which may be less light-sensitive.

These forms of vitamin A are often used in products with lower concentrations and may be more suitable for people who are sensitive to retinol.

It is important to note that different skin types and individual sensitivities may vary. It is recommended that you consult a skincare expert or read the specific instructions on the products to make the best choice for your skin type and needs.
