Various exfoliants can be helpful for self-treating milia. They help remove dead skin cells and prevent the formation of new milia. This is because milia consist largely of keratin, which is also the main component of dead skin cells. If these are not removed from the skin’s surface, they encourage the formation of new milia.
Exfoliants should be used in combination with your day cream. Take the utmost care when working near the eyes, using a cotton bud. We have suggested some gentle exfoliating masks here.
A facial steam bath can also help prepare the skin for a cleansing exfoliation to remove milia on the face. Furthermore, you can tea tree oil to the affected areas overnight; this can then simply be washed off the next morning with a thorough cleanse. Near the eyes, tea tree oil should be used with caution near the eyes, as it can irritate the mucous membranes. We have suggested a few SKUs containing tea tree oil here.
Retinol for milia
Vitamin A in retinol-based skincare solutions delivers a regenerative effect. It is a fat-soluble micronutrient essential for humans. This means it must be sourced from external channels, ideally through dietary intake, and is critical for survival. Vitamin A plays a role in key internal processes. These include the synthesis of visual pigments and crucial structural proteins, including those found in the skin.
