Good to knowThe first mosquitoes hatch at temperatures of 10 degrees Celsius and above.Other insect repellents contain plasticisers or even DEET, which corrodes rubber parts. Icaridin is harmful to the environment and DEET is only 70% biodegradable in sewage treatment plants. In contrast, lemongrass oil is 100% biodegradable and even edible. Why do mosquitoes bite?Only female mosquitoes bite. They require a specific protein found in our blood to produce eggs after fertilisation. When do mosquitoes bite?This depends on the weather and local climate. In Central Europe, mosquitoes are generally active in late summer and, in warm conditions, into early autumn. When they bite depends on the species. There are both diurnal and nocturnal species. Light plays no role in this. Mosquitoes are guided by scent. Why do mosquitoes only bite me?Mosquitoes are attracted to certain odours such as ammonia, uric acid or lactic acid. These are produced when you sweat and the sweat breaks down on the skin. This varies from person to person, which is why some people attract mosquitoes more than others. The air we breathe also plays a role, as mosquitoes primarily locate humans through the carbon dioxide they exhale. The more CO2 someone exhales, the more likely they are to be bitten. This is also why pregnant women are bitten more often, as they are breathing for two and are therefore easier for the insects to locate.   Single active ingredient: Cymbopogon Citratus Leaf/Stem Oil is effective against acne, but is also used in products that promote blood circulation and firm the skin, as well as to combat excessive sweating and repel insects.
