Collagen is a protein of fundamental importance in the formation of the extracellular matrix of connective tissue and is responsible for some of its physical properties.   The term ‘protein’ comes from the Greek word ‘proteios’, meaning ‘the substance of life’. Collagen accounts for 30% of the total protein in the human body. Responsible for normal growth, it ensures the formation of blood, teeth, cartilage, eyes, tendons and ligaments.
