Oral intake of vitamin C through food is healthy and vital; it strengthens the immune system and supports overall wellness. UV rays deplete vitamin C in the body, and the skin often experiences a vitamin C deficiency.
Acid forms are only used in PEELS, as these make the skin sensitive to light. In creams and serums, lipophilic, more stable forms of vitamin C are used, which can be applied all year round.
Scientific findings demonstrate the benefits of using vitamin C:

Vitamin C also has an effect on melanin production and acts as a tyrosinase inhibitor. Vitamins C and E work together. Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is essential for protecting the lipids in the cell membrane, as it regenerates the fat-soluble vitamin E once it has acted as an antioxidant, thereby making it ready for use again. Vitamin C also helps to soothe sunburn. It has the advantage that, once absorbed by the cell, it cannot be washed out. It therefore remains effective for days after absorption. The absorption of vitamin C through food is therefore not comparable to absorption through the skin (topically).
Ascorbic acid struggles to pass through the stratum corneum, as it is a water-soluble molecule and is repelled by the lipid-based cell layer. Furthermore, even if ascorbic acid does pass through the stratum corneum, it struggles to penetrate the cell. This is why we prefer the fat-soluble form (ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate). Ascorbic acid is primarily used in exfoliants and to support natural exfoliation.
Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitateis fat-soluble and extremely stable. This fat-soluble form passes through the stratum corneum very easily and also penetrates the cell very readily. Consequently, an amount of vitamin C almost 10 times greater reaches the cell than with the same amount of ascorbic acid. The result is effective control of melanin production, improved collagen production and efficient antioxidant protection.
Overdose?Unknown and unproven when absorbed through the skin. In its acid form, blemished skin in particular may react strongly with irritation.
